Registration for next year will take place in the next two weeks. Parents are invited to make an appointment with their student's Hawk'sNest teacher to go over class choices for 2008-09. Hawk's Nest teachers will be available until 7 p.m. on several days this week to consult with parents. Ninth grade registration is Monday, Feb. 18. Registration booklets were sent home by students last Wed. It's also available in two parts on the GCS web site.
This is the next to last week before the 10th grade writing test on Tues., March 4. Please make sure that if you need help with your writing, you stay after school in the media center to work with English teachers and interns on Mondays and Wednesdays until 5 p.m. Someone will be here to help you on those days.
Bring colored pencils to class on Tues. for assignment.----
When finished, students will score their own essays with DB rubric on five qualities of essay. They will then revise the essay according to these qualities in the rubric.

-underline the first five words in each sentence in red
-place parentheses around simple sentences in green
Count the number of words in each sentence and plae the number in blue over the last word in each sentence.
Mark in orange any sentences that are exclamatory or interrogative.
Count number of simple sentences (subject + verb)
Take one body paragraph and revise it thoroughly for sentence variety.
